5 can't-miss apps: Hipstamatic DSPO, Funny or Die News Flash and more

With the Apple Watch finally launching — and bringing thousands of new and updated apps with it — you may have missed some of this week's best new apps.

Luckily, each weekend, we round up our favorite new and updated apps, so you won't miss out.

This week's list includes Hipstamatic's newest disposable camera app, a '70s-themed driving game, a satirical news app from Funny or Die and a photo editing app that helps you create thousands of your own personalized filters.

  DeeMe

  The instant messaging app focuses on combining photos, videos and text, with an emphasis on typography. Take a photo or video and add text and graphic overlays in an a variety of different font styles before sending them.

  Keep an eye on: The font styles — the developers say more choices are on the way. You can also respond to messages from within the same photo to create an ongoing thread.

  Does Not Commute

  Does Not Commute begins in a sleepy, but beautifully lit, '70s suburb with players guiding various citizens — each with their own backstory — through the town on their way to and from work. But the commutes get steadily more treacherous as the game progresses and traffic gets worse.

  Keep an eye on: The characters’ storylines also progress throughout the game as you learn more about their lives and, sometimes, their deep dark secrets.

  Funny Or Die Newsflash

  The latest app from the funny folks at Funny or Die gives the traditional news digest app a decidedly satirical spin. Each day, the app provides a list of some the biggest headlines with a one-line summary of the news, followed by a late night-style one liner.

  Keep an eye on: Each news story comes with a funny looping GIF that is (somewhat) related to the news.

  Hipstamatic DSPO

  DSPO is Hipstamtic’s second try at a disposable camera-themed app (the first was the short-lived D-Series, released in 2011). At it’s most basic level, the app allows you to share group cameras with friends for a set period of time, ranging from an hour or two to a year. The images everyone snaps are shared among the group but only once the timer runs out can everyone view their photos.

  Keep an eye on: The app does include some of Hipstamatic’s signature filters and you can unlock more by upgrading to the premium version.

  Shift

  Shift rolled out a big update to its filter-making app this week. The latest version of the app includes a suite of new tools for adjusting and customizing thousands of different photo filters.

  Keep an eye on: The app uses pinch and ppm gestures to control many of the effects like texture overlays and how the colors of each effect are distributed throughout the image.

  Pro-tip:: You can tweak the app’s preset filters as much as you want so don’t be afraid to use the shuffle button as a preset. You can view your original image at nay time by holding down on the photo.
